Car Accidents in Hawaii
Some motor vehicle collisions are caused by a single outside influence over which neither driver has control. It is much more common, however, for auto accidents to be the end result of many different factors that culminate into a single, terrible event. Although it is true that, once in a great while, no one is to blame, an overwhelming number of serious car accidents are caused by negligent actions on the part of one or both drivers.
Some common forms of negligence that result in serious auto collisions include:
- Inattentive drivers, such as those reading text messages and making telephone calls
- Drives who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Drivers who are aggressive or reckless
- Vehicles that are poorly maintained
- Roadways and intersections that are badly designed
These and numerous other forms of negligence put thousands of innocent people in harm’s way each and every day, including joggers, bicyclists, pedestrians, children, and even other motorists and their passengers.
When someone behind the wheel of an object that has the power to kill is careless, irresponsible or distracted for even a second, the chances of them killing an innocent victim or leaving a victim with critical injuries are quite high.
The state of Hawaii abides by no-fault car insurance laws. This means that, generally speaking, injured parties will have to file a claim with their own insurance company for repayment of their medical costs no matter how the accident happened.
If a motor vehicle accident left you with serious injuries and significant medical expenses that equal $5,000 or more or left you with a permanent disability or disfigurement, you may be eligible to pursue compensation from the driver who caused them.
