Honolulu, HI (July 04, 2022) – A passenger on an Oahu Transit Service Bus sustained critical injuries after she was thrown from her seat when the bus driver made a sudden stop on Sunday, July 3rd.
The incident took place at about 9:15 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway in Pearl Harbor.
The Honolulu Police Department said that the bus driver, a 51-year-old man, was driving westbound on Kamehameha Highway when, for reasons still under investigation, he braked abruptly and caused a 65-year-old woman to be expelled from her seat and strike the interior of the bus.
The passenger was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The bus driver was unharmed during the incident and he stayed at the scene.
No other injuries were reported, and HPD officers said neither drugs, alcohol nor speed seem to be contributing factors.
Honolulu police are investigating.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
