Honolulu, HI (May 30, 2022) – A tractor-trailer operator died when he was crushed by his own freight during a collision with another tractor-trailer on Monday, May 30th in Kapolei.
The incident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. in the 91-200 block of Hanua Street. The Honolulu Fire Department said that crews arrived on the scene and discover that one tractor-trailer had crashed into another.
Crash investigators from the Honolulu Police Department determined that the operator was traveling northbound on Hanua Street when, for reasons still under investigation, they crashed into another truck.
The force of the impact resulted in the striking vehicle’s payload sliding forward and fatally crushing the driver who has since been identified as a 57-year-old man from Waipahu.
Emergency responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate the victim’s body from the wreckage. Their identity has not been released.
No one else was injured in the incident, the cause of which is still under investigation.
According to investigators, neither alcohol, drugs, nor speed appears to have contributed to the crash.
This is the 22nd fatal motor vehicle accident on Oahu this year.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
