How are DUI Cases Different?
We get an extraordinary number of calls regarding DUI-related crashes and they are different that an ordinary car accident in a number of ways. There’s usually a criminal side to those cases, and the person who was injured is likely going to be a witness in the criminal case. So those two cases run parallel to each other, and you wouldn’t have that in an ordinary rear-end collision. The second way that they’re different is that there’s usually the prospect of punitive damages. If somebody that’s driving under the influence hurts somebody, they need to compensate that person, but they also need to be punished because they’re jeopardizing the safety of everybody on the road by choosing to drive while drunk.
