Do I need a lawyer?
People who have been told by an insurance carrier that they shouldn’t see a lawyer – that is probably a very good indicator that they should be seeing a lawyer. And often I tell people who ask me, “Do I really need a lawyer?” I ask them, “do you want to be your own plumber?” Because basically you can think you know what you have to do, but if you don’t really know everything about it, then it’s a recipe for disaster. One of the things that we can do, even sometimes when we’re unable to get the client all of the compensation that they want, we can tell them anyway that we’ve gotten everything that’s available to them and they at least have the knowledge that they didn’t overlook something, that they didn’t leave something on the table. Therefore that in itself can be very helpful to a person’s psychological response to an incident where they’re not at fault and someone has hurt them.
