New Cars Safer
Yeah, cars have gotten much safer over the past few years. That can be good and bad. That can be good in the sense that there are less catastrophic injuries, but it can also embolden people and make them feel like “I may get into a crash here, but I’ll be alright because I’ve got all these bags that are going to be going off. I’m in a big car and it’s structurally sound.”
We also have a lot of clients that come in that are very surprised that their airbags didn’t go off. What a lot of people don’t realize is that the airbags are intended to prevent catastrophic injuries and not just minor injuries, and so the airbags themselves can cause people to get hurt. So there may be collisions where they don’t go off, because if they did they would cause unnecessary injury. So there is a misconception that “I wouldn’t have been injured in this crash if only my airbags had gone off” and “why didn’t that happen.” But as it turns out, they could have been more injured if the airbags had gone off.
