Honolulu Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers

Seeking Restitution for Injured Victims

According to the Brain Injury Association of Hawaii, every 21 seconds, one person in the U.S. suffers a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). These injuries most often result from falls, traffic accidents, or violence and can be one of the most debilitating and difficult injuries to overcome. In many cases, victims are left with diminished cognitive abilities and motor function that lead to physical and emotional problems. A TBI victim may not be able to work for a living and some are even paralyzed.

When another person's negligence causes a brain injury, victims may seek restitution for their expenses and other associated losses. Victims of serious brain injuries can rely on the legal experience of Leavitt Yamane & Soldner to help them obtain justice. Our Honolulu TBI attorneys have helped victims recover both financially and emotionally from these life-changing injuries.

Potential Results of Traumatic Brain Injuries

A TBI is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. A mild TBI is a concussion. Most concussions require only a few days or weeks of rest to heal. A person who sustains a concussion may experience short-term loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, and/or short-term problems with concentration, memory, judgment, and physical coordination.

If concussion symptoms do not subside after several weeks, the victim may be said to have post-concussion syndrome. For unknown reasons, concussion symptoms may linger for months or longer in some cases. In addition to the physical suffering, the continuing uncertainty of post-concussion syndrome may lead to anxiety or depression. More serious brain injuries can be debilitating.

Symptoms of a serious TBI include:

  • Confusion
  • Visual - spatial impairment
  • Memory deficits
  • Reduced attention and concentration
  • Fatigue
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Impaired thinking ability
  • Decreased control of body movements
  • Language difficulties
