MR. JOHN YAMANE: Hi, my name is John Yamane. I was born and raised here in Hawaii. I grew up on the island of Lanai and later moved back to Honolulu. I graduated from Punahou School, and then later attended the University of Hawaii. I later transferred to the University of Washington where I received my undergraduate degree, and then I attended law school there. After working in Seattle for a year clerking for one of the judges there, I realized it was time to come home to Hawaii. When I moved back, first I worked for the prosecuting attorney's office, and then in 1981 I started working with my partner, Jim Leavitt. Since that time I have been personally involved in over 20 criminal and civil jury trials, and have been involved in many, many more bench trials and arbitrations. Our law firm, Leavitt, Yamane, & Soldner concentrate in representing individuals that have been seriously injured because of the negligence of others. I enjoy doing this type of work because I like helping people. The clients that come to see us, they've been seriously injured in accidents, they're confused, they don't know what they're rights are, they don't know how the law works. And so what we do is we try to explain to them how the system works and what we can do to help them get through their tough times.
